I'm Addicted to Blogs

It has happened. All these years and all this time I have been on the internet I have never really gotten in to ready people's blogs and up until we started Trying for a Baby, I never really wrote on a blog either. But it's happened I have become addicted to reading other people's blogs. Mostly people I have met on Ivillage (I have linked to all the ones I read religiously) but this afternoon from getting a blog link about one of my favorite subjects led me to one blog after another. I think I started with the one and before I knew it I was sucked into about 6 of them. But I stumbled across something amazing that I never thought of.

I really want to do Cloth Diapers - preferably G-diapers but still a little nervous about it. What if I buy them and they don't fit. G-diapers have a tiny, small, medium and large size but really now big is your baby really going to be. Am I going to have a small little one like my SIL? Alyssa was only about 5 1/2 lbs when she was born, or am I going to have a very very large baby like a friend of mine - a Whopping 10lbs? I know those are the extremes but it could happen either way.

Anyway I was reading this blog called Dear Baby and this woman on there apparently took a Cloth Diapering Class - Who knew they had these things - Granted she is in San Francisco, and not the Midwest, but seriously. Her advice from other cloth diapering mom's and her class was to use disposable diapers for the first couple of months and then switch to cloth diapers! Seriously how ingenious is this idea! I mean come on. Sorry I am a little excited, this puts a lot of my fears aside and gives me hope that I can actually pull off this cloth diapering thing - no matter how scary it may be.

This is paraphrased from her blog - you can read her entry entry by clicking on the link above. The benefits of using disposables at first are:
1. You can get those cute little p.ampers or h.uggies that have the strip and tell you when the babe is actually wet - so you can learn their potty habits.
2. You don't have to worry about if the diapers are too big and then leaking happens :( Ick, who wants leaking.
3. Sleep Deprived, exhausted and delirious you don't have to worry about doing so much laundry. Granted this isn't as big of a deal for me because we would be doing the disposable inserts and not the cloth inserts, but still. Great idea!!!

So I think I am going to consider this. Plus then we can order them after the baby comes, we will know how big she/he will be and we can figure things out from there! I love it!

I know what you mean about being addicted to blogs! When I started mine about 1.5 years ago, I really didn't know of any. But, I went to this conference, and there was a "women in planetary science" blog that I started reading. Then I looked at their blog roll and found a ton of others. Then, when the m/c happened, I started reading TTC/IF blogs...when will it end? LOL

Hi Jessica!
I'm Erin (Nirestar frim iV) - Sweet Pickles has classes on Cloth Diapers if you are interested. I think she also does in-home consultations: http://www.mysweetpickles.com/

We've been in gDiapers with pre-folds since the boys were about 4 months old. This time I think we're going to use Swaddlers for the first few months and possibly go with the GroBaby system...so many choices.
