Our little Pineapple

As you may or may not have seen from yesterday's Wordless Wednesday, We are expecting baby #2. I am a little over 10 weeks along right now and doing pretty good. Here is the short version of the past 10 weeks.

  • Got our BFP on March 9th. I actually couldn't believe it when I saw the line. We have been trying for about 6 or 8 months and I really didn't think we would actually get pregnant this time, but there it was. I took a few more tests just to make sure. Yes I am a bit crazy like that. The WTTG girls/August SP girls are all the same so they know what I am talking about
  • About week 5 I started getting really sick. Not throwing up facing the porcelain god sick, but the constantly nauseous sick. Like all day sick. Sprite and Wheat Thins were my friend in the morning. Luckily it only lasted about 3 or 4 weeks and I don't feel sick unless I don't eat all the time.
  •  I had my first appointment with my Midwife on April 9th. She wanted me to come in for an Ultrasound and a Fasting Glucose Test in the few days following my appointment. One to see the dating of the baby (I wasn't going to protest) and she wanted to see what my Glucose was at because I had Gestational Diabetes with Gabby.
  • April 12th I went in for my Glucose Fasting Test and the Ultrasound. lets just say I was starving by the time I took that test. And of course just like I thought was going to happen I failed the test. I was supposed to be at 92 or lower and I was at 100. The little gummie bear is doing well had a good heartbeat of 170 and was already wiggling around a little during the ultrasound.
  • April 17th I had to meet with my dietician. Get the low down again on where my numbers are supposed to be. I need a fasting before breakfast level of 60 to 95 and 1 hour after meals I need 130 or lower.
  • So far it's been about a week since I have started testing my blood sugar and it's been pretty good. My fasting levels however are NEVER in target. The closest I have been was this morning with a 96. I am going to try to eat some peanut butter toast before I go to bed and see if the higher protein at night helps with the lower levels in the morning. Most of my 1 hour after meals have been around 110 to 120, so WAY better than last time. Mike and I have been trying to take walks right after dinner, plus running around after Gabby helps lower those. Hopefully the next 30 some weeks will go by fast and I can get off this restrictive diet.
So that's where we are at now. No more ultrasounds until the 20 week one since my insurance won't cover it. And I pretty much have 2 doctor appointments each month - one with my midwife and one with my dietician.  Until week 26 or so and then I will have to go bi-monthly to the dietician. Fun times! But it will be well worth it.

When I had GD with the girls my 1 hour post eating was always within range, but my fasting was always a point or two above (93, 96, etc. - they actually wanted me <90). I tried eating all sorts of things before going to bed (technically it's not supposed to matter what you eat, but whatever, it does!) The one thing that seemed to help lower my fasting levels was having a glucerna mini snack bar before bed. I wasn't thrilled with eating those since they're not a real "whole" food, but my dr said it was ok and they helped. Might be something to try if your dietitian okays it!

Gemini Momma - I didn't realize you had GD with the girls. With Gabby I was above a lot with my post 1 hour, but I was eating like crap still - I have gotten much better this time around :) Adding more fruits and veggies into it.

I will have to try the glucerna snack bar. She suggested the smoothie drink thing for breakfast, so that might help. I have a call into her to figure out what to do about the morning. Last night I had peanut butter toast and I was still at 98.

I can't believe they wanted you below 90. With Gabby I was ALWAYS below 90 or really close but with this pregnancy I just can't seem to get there. Not sure if it's because my sugar is dropping overnight or what.
