Breastfeeding the new weight loss diet

This post is part of the Breastfeeding Blog Hop hosted by The Slacker Mom and co-hosted by Happiness Redefined and by The Gnome’s Mom. This week’s topic is “Exercising While Breastfeeding“ Scroll down to see more posts or even better, link up and join the fun!

I wasn't going to post about this topic because I have never been one for exercising...then I thought about it a little more and decided that I needed to do this for me. I was overweight before I was pregnant with Gabby. I have struggled with my weight for the past 7 years or so. I was down at a good weight when Mike and I got married and then through some stress at jobs and not working out I started to gain and gain and gain. I had started riding my bike and playing golf before I got pregnant. After I started working out, stretching, doing some yoga because my back hurt so bad. I only gained like 16 or 17lbs when I was pregnant because I was on a pretty strict low carb diet for my Gestational Diabetes.

When I had Gabby I didn't expect the weight to drop off. After I had her I lost like 14lbs in a week or so. Before I knew it after awhile I was down 20lbs, then 25lbs, then 30 and it kept dropping. In the end while breastfeeding I ended up dropping 45lbs. I was thinner than I had been in years!! I kept most of it off, I probably gained back about 10lbs and while I am not where I want to be right now I am still under what I was when I got pregnant with Gabby.

I still don't exercise all that much, I try to get out and walk. I started Zumba over the winter and need to get back into that. Needless to say that doing Zumba while full on breastfeeding was.... Interesting.... Lets just say I needed a lot of support ;) A good bra is worth every penny. I didn't have to worry about my supply dropping like some women do with exercising. For one I wasn't doing it that often and secondly I had a pretty good supply, it never really dipped at all through the 19.5 months that I nursed her.

Anyway now that I have weaned Gabby I plan on getting back into the exercising more - and because it's nice out here in MN I am not in hibernation mode. So wish me luck in getting back on the exercise train!

What is your breastfeeding and nursing experience??

I've been breast feeding Desmond for 6 months now and haven't dropped a single pound other than the initial water weight loss (approximately 20lbs). I've had a few dips in supply but that is mostly because I've occasionally fallen off my normal pump schedule. Once I start back on my normal schedule my supply picks back up. My goal is to get in a few workouts a week. Hopefully some of the weight will start dropping off. When did you start to see it come of after you had Gabby?

Thanks for the comments ladies!

I think I started seeing it slip off around 3 months or so But I think it finally came off around 6 or 7 months after.
