Electricity

This is totally not baby related and a very random post - so feel free to not read, as it might be stupid :)

Mike and I got up this morning around 6:45 like we always do. Normally he gets up first, takes his shower and then I slowly wake myself up and crawl out of bed about 15 minutes later, take my test, take care of the dog and shower and go about my day. Well it all was going as usual this morning until I heard this loud beeping. It took me awhile to figure out that it was security system and the ONLY time it makes that noise is when the electricity is out. So sure enough I look at the alarm clock and it's out. So I get out of bed to turn it off and realize that we now have to take showers by candlelight. I told Mike well I will just make eggs, and then realized that I have an electric stove, so that won't work.

The whole point of this post is I realized again how much I rely on Electricity. I kept trying to flip on lights. Both of our bathrooms have no windows, so candlelight it was. It was a nice relaxing shower this morning though.

But then I realized that while I could probably work from home for a few hours, I wouldn't make it through my first meeting at 9:00 because my battery only lasts a few hours, so we both got ready and came into the office. I will be heading home after my 9:00, if it's back on. Apparently a breaker got hit by lightening so about 3,000 people were out of power this morning.

I kept thinking, oh I can do this (like dry and curl my hair) or that (Make breakfast). I went into the Utility room to look for some candles and flipped the light on - really? What was the entire point of me going into the Utility Room - DUH to look for candles. It sometimes takes awhile apparently.

I also realized that I have a limited breakfast selection, as I can only have 2 carb exchanges or 30 carbs in the morning. Which is why I usually have eggs. But Cereal is so much to fill me up, so that was out this morning, I couldn't do an english muffin (because I have to have them toasted, I know so picky) and can't toast something without electricity. So I had a protein meal bar, luckily I waited long enough so I should be fine until lunch now and I have some nuts and string cheese....

Like I said boring post :)

It's amazing how much we rely on things like that! Even more amazing is how ingrained it is into our everyday lives that it's hard to "break the habit" of turning on lights, etc..

I hope the power is back on soon!

I know right! I am back at home now so that's good. Power is all restored :)

Ugh. Our power was out for an hour yesterday morning, but only for the hour before I had to be up. I couldn't sleep since I lost my fan for white noise.

It really is crazy how much we rely on electricity! We learned our lesson back in December when ours was out for four days. We now have a designated drawer for flashlights/candles/propane campstove. It's next to a window so we can see to get stuff.

I'm glad they got it restored quickly!
