Photo Shoot

So Mike and I have been wanting to have pictures done by a professional since Gabby was about 3 months old, but I just don't like paying the money. I know we are cheap. So a good friend of mine from work, Jeff -who is a photographer (Check out Wellan Photo) gave me a few tips.

Tip #1 -Find a place with a lot of natural light - Check~
Tip #2 - Get a black piece and a white piece of fabric - Check~
Tip #3 - Get eye level or below your subject - Check~

So I set out to Joann Fabrics yesterday and lucky me they were having a sale on Fabric. I got 3 yards of black fabric - I already had a white sheet at home. Today was the day of the photo shoot. Gabby's 8 month birthday. So when she was still in a good mood this morning I got her in her "8 month" outfit and I set up our photo shoot.

So I got some pillows (because while she is 8 months she still loses her balance sometimes) and I put it behind her. I got the black fabric and laid it out on the ground and then up pillows and I clipped it onto the chairs that were behind her. This created the seamless backdrop that Jeff told me about. The black fabric created her as the focal point and NOT my plaid couch as I had on her past photos! Wish I would have thought about this before - especially when I was pregnant.

Then I just cropped the photo and uploaded it to Photobucket so I could do some different things with them. I have to see if the photo software I have, I can do some more things, but for now I am using photobucket. And here is the finished product.

And here are a few more pictures from her photo shoot

Great work on the photo's Jessica. I really like how they turned out with the backdrop and B&W + color effects! Totally professional looking. Jeff

Those are good tips. Natural light is my favorite to work with. I was going to tell you picnik is also a great site to play around with your images, if you don't have photo editing software. Gabby looks great btw. She is so cute.

Super cute! We need a new camera before this little one is born, but I'll have to pick up some black and white fabric, too, just for photo shoots. :-)
