The Bradley Method

Many of you know that I am considering a Waterbirth and that I want to have as natural of a childbirth as I possibly can. My Chiropractor and some other people recommended the Husband Coached Childbirth book. I tried finding it at Borders last night, but they didn't have it. So I ordered it from Amazon today. Plus I think it will be cheaper than Amazon. This was a method developed by Robert Bradley that helps with:

•Build better, deeper, and more trusting communication skills with your partner in preparation for a drug-free childbirth

•Learn the physical, emotional, and mental relaxation techniques essential to a natural childbirth

•Discover how you and your doctor can work together toward your natural delivery

•Monitor your weight, nutrition, and your overall well-being during pregnancy

•Use natural prevention methods for the most common pregnancy problems

•Get the most out of the bonding experience you will share with your baby and your partner

Its supposed to be good to help prevent C-Sections, medications that can be harmful to the baby and a few other things. I don't know a lot about it, but will be posting more about it as I read more on it when I get the book. Mike and I talked about having a Doula but he said he wants to be my coach (sweet huh?)...So I thought this would be a good idea to have this which will help him. My Chiropractor said the book is written towards the husband's point of view so I am sure that will help him. We will see - he doesn't like to read books, so I might have to mark sections here and there for him. :)

Chiropractor

I had my appointment with my Chiropractor and let me just say, I wish I would have gone sooner. I know I know...I put it off because I had such a bad experience the last time I went and it was nothing like that. I got there filled all the paperwork out and then saw her internist. Who was super nice.

We talked about where the pain was, how far along I was, and what I ate in a typical day. Let me tell you I wasn't ready for this and when you have to say it to someone else, you realize you aren't eating the right things. So that will have to change. I have to get a TON more protein in my diet, but I knew that already.

She found out that my right leg is shorter than my left leg. and did some work on my back. My lower right side is pretty tender and I have a lot of tightness all the way up my right side - probably from the computer work I do all day long since I am right-handed.

Then the doc came in and she did some more reflex stuff and then worked on my back. It was more like a massage than anything, but it felt really nice. Then she used the table I was on and the bottom 1/2 of it lowered while she stretched out my back. Then she used this tool that helped put the joints back in place. i can't remember what it's called, but it wasn't too bad. it was a little weird, but I don't feel like I am in massive amounts of pain - not like last time. Last time I left the chiro I couldn't move.

So I have another appointment tomorrow with her in the afternoon and then I will have another one on Friday. I re-verified that she is covered under my insurance. When I got there this morning the receptionist said she wasn't. But I called up the insurance company and she is, so that's good news. I have almost reached my deductible of $350.00 so this next couple of sessions I only have to pay 20% of whatever the cost is they will cover which will be nice. She said her sessions are no more than $150.00 each. so that's not too bad.

She said she will want to put me on a Cod-Liver Oil Supplement and something else. I will talk to my Midwife before I get that. She also suggested that I have a doula at birth and I am not sure about that. But I am going to look into the Bradley method for birthing and see what that's all about. So overall it was a great appointment. She is amazing and reminds me a lot of my MidWife which is great!
